We are a parent run toddler and baby group for parents/carers of babies and children up to the age of 3 years who live in Kington St Michael, Kington Langley and the surrounding area. Older children and siblings are welcome but we try to maintain an environment which is most suited to younger children.
The group meets on Wednesdays (during term time) in Kington Langley village hall between 9.30am and 11.30am, and runs on a voluntary rota basis. Entry costs £2 per family on the day, and invludes tea, coffee and biscuits.
The children are able to play with toys to encourage physical and imaginative play; books, puzzles, and dressing up clothes. The hall gives us plenty of space for the little ones to toddle about and generally wear themselves out. A craft activity is provided by a different parent each week. We also have a well-equipped quiet corner for babies and parents. At the end of each session the whole group joins together for 10 minutes of singing.
The group is well-attended and we regularly have between 20 and 30 families each week. Adult carers using the group include Childminders, Mums, Dads and Grandparents and come from both villages and Chippenham.
We are visited once a month by Julie the Nursery Nurse who provides advice and weight checks for the babies. We occasionally have other visitors such as the dental nurse, dance teacher, and people selling child-orientated products.
We mark the usual seasonal festivities with events such as a fancy dress halloween session; Christmas party and Santa visit; Easter egg hunt and Sports day. We try to be involved in village events such as the Christmas Fayre, Scarecrow festival and this year the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
We try to keep all our toys clean and in good working order through an annual 'spring clean' and we regularly replace old and broken toys with new ones.
We have recently ammended our constitution to allow us to use a more flexible payment system. Everyone pays on the day they come rather than termly and rates are between £1.50 and £3 per family for each session. We don't hold a waiting list and new members are welcome to come and try the group without giving prior notice, so if you are either new to the village or to parenthood, drop and give Kington Tots a try.
